German Japanese Symposium on Electrosynthesis 2017

September 14-15th
Chemistry Department

The German-Japanese Symposium on Electrosynthesis is a fruitful series of gatherings of the most renowned players in electrosynthesis from both countries. Established in 2010, this meeting is held every year in Japan or Germany.

Despite the need for qualified electrochemical scientists, academic research in Germany on this field has almost vanished within the last two decades. However, there is still a small but emerging electrochemical research “community” that is devoted to reanimate progress of this field in Germany.

This symposium is targeted to increase the collaboration and knowledge exchange in this highly interdisciplinary field that joins preparative-oriented organic, inorganic and physical chemists. A vivid exchange with the most powerful electrosynthesis community which is represented in Japan will be of mutual interest since the expertise is highly complementary.

Furthermore, contributors and guests from leading chemical companies will have and give the possibility to improve on the contacts between science and process development.

Among others, the following speakers will give presentations:

M. Atobe (Yokohama Nation University)
N. Aust (BASF SE)
K. Chiba (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology)

Technical Program

Thursday, September 14th
Registration open from 14:30. Official opening of the symposium at 15:00 at the JGU chemistry department. During the following poster session all young researchers are invited to present and discuss their recent results.

Friday, September 15th
Presentations beginning at 9:00 at Mainz University. Lunch at Mainz Mensa. The official program will end by

We recommend the InterCityHotel Mainz. It is close to the central station and offers a good public transportation connection to Mainz University campus. Our Japanese guests will be accomodated here. (

Extended registration phase: Please register by August 25th!

In order to arrange best for your arrival please let us know, how you will presumably get to Mainz!
Please indicate each day you are going to attend the meeting.
We are looking forward to a vivid discussion with all participants at the poster session. As not all participants will be able to do an oral presentation, this is a good opportunity to show your chemistry to a truly international electrochemical community. See abstract information at the bottom of the page.
All oral presentations are by invitation only. If you already agreed to contribute to our symposium please indicate your presumable title of your presentation here. See abstract information at the bottom of the page.
