Success at "Jugend forscht"

Congratulations to Frederik Dumele, who was awarded a second price at the 2013 national german young researchers competition "Jugend forscht".

The young researcher from Ludgwigshafen developed and performed all the reactions for his natural product synthesis at his local school. For purification and characterization of his product, he visited our group for some weeks in order to finish his investigations. Local instructor PhD student Michael Mirion is impressed: "Frederik is not only a talented and motivated researcher but also great in presenting his results."

After Nico Fleck, who was awarded the first prize in the 2011 national competition, Frederik is already the second visitor to our group who was successful at this level. Group leader (and former Jugend forscht-Awardee himself) Prof. S.R. Waldvogel encourages the young scientists and is glad to provide support for appropriate projects: "Besides of improving the contact between schools and universities, these research projects are a great stimulus for the later development of our future students and scientist."

As Frederik received in addition the BAYER special award, he will visit the Bayer research facilities at San Francisco for three weeks. We wish him a fantastic stay there.
